Chants Wrap Up Chanticleer Showdown

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team went 1-1 on the final day of the Chanticleer Showdown, falling to UConn 4-1 before run-ruling the Bowling Green Falcons 9-1.

UConn 4, Coastal 1

CCU struck first in the bottom of the second inning after loading the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. The Chants then took advantage of heads-up baserunning by Keirstin Roose to scratch across a run to put Coastal up 1-0. 

The Huskies responded in the top of the fourth frame when Savannah Ring hit a double down the left-field line to drive in two runs, bringing the score to 2-1.

UConn extended its lead in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a solo home run by Rosie Garcia to make the score 3-1. 

Kaitlyn Breslin added another run to the Huskies' total in the top of the sixth hitting a solo home run of her own to give UConn a 4-1 victory.

Abby Henderson took the loss for the Chanticleers, dropping to 5-2 on the season.

Bowling Green 1, Coastal 9

The Falcons took an early lead in the top of the first inning when a wild pitch allowed Hannah Hunt to cross home plate, giving Bowling Green a 1-0 advantage.

The Chanticleers answered back in the bottom of the frame, loading the bases on three consecutive singles from Delaney Keith, Georgia Hood, and Roose. Back-to-back walks pushed two runs across, putting Coastal up 2-1.

Junior Libby Pippin added another run in the bottom of the second inning, lacing an RBI single to center field to make it 3-1.

Coastal exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third, fueled by a two-run home run, two RBI singles, and three walks to secure the 9-1 run-rule victory.

Nicolette Picone allowed just one hit and one run over four innings of work, earning her eighth win of the season.

The Chanticleers return to action on March 3, facing Bowling Green for the second time at 6 p.m. ET.
