CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team defeated Texas State 5-4 to clinch the three-game series at St. John Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Texas State took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Keely Williams hit an RBI triple down the right-field line to put the Bobcats up 1-0.

The Bobcats threatened to add more in the top of the second when they loaded the bases on a single and two walks. However, left fielder Libby Pippin made a diving catch to end the inning, keeping the score at 1-0.

The Chants' bats were hot in the bottom of the second. McKennah Metzger and Brie Normandin each recorded hits, putting runners on second and third, then both Clara Hudgens and Libby Pippin delivered RBI singles to give the Chants a 3-1 lead. Georgia Hood stayed in top form, crushing her third home run of the weekend to center field, extending the lead to 5-1.

Texas State threatened a comeback in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on a fielder's choice and a single, but the Chanticleers held on to secure the victory.

Abby Henderson improved to 8-3 on the season, allowing two earned runs on three hits over five innings of work.
