CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team used a five-run fifth inning to run-rule the UNCG Spartans 9-1 at St. John Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Delaney Keith started things off in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right field and
Georgia Hood followed with a double of her own to plate the first run of the game.
The Chants added two more runs in the bottom of the third frame after a Spartans' miscue during a rundown attempt allowed for Keith and
Keirstin Roose to come home to make the score 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth
Libby Pippin connected for her fourth home run of the season to extend Coastal's lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fifth frame, UNCG knocked in its first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in foul territory to narrow the gap to 4-1.
In the bottom of the inning the Chanticleer offensive attack continued behind back-to-back home runs from Hood and Roose.
McKennah Metzger,
Brie Normandin, and
Lucy Goodwin each contributed an RBI hit to help Coastal run-rule the Spartans, 9-1.
Nicolette Picone picked up the win to improve to 9-1 in her seventh complete game of the season.
The Chanticleers will return to action on March 7-9 for their first three-game series of the season against the South Dakota Coyotes at St. John Stadium.
