CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team earned its second consecutive run-rule victory, shutting out South Dakota 8-0 on Friday evening at St. John Stadium.
With the win, Coastal improves to 18-4, while the Coyotes drop to 14-6.
The Chanticleers capitalized on back-to-back walks in the bottom of the first inning when
Keirstin Roose cleared the bases with a two-run triple, putting Coastal ahead 2-0.
Coastal extended its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning after Roose smashed an RBI double, followed by
McKennah Metzger launching a two-run home run over the center-field wall, her fourth of the season.
In the bottom fourth inning, the Chants tacked on three more runs.
Delaney Keith roped an RBI double, and
Georgia Hood followed with a two-run homer to secure the 8-0 run-rule victory.
Nicolette Picone pitched a complete-game shutout, recording six strikeouts to improve to 10-1 on the season.
