CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team grinded out an extra-innings win to fend off the South Dakota Coyotes 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at St. John Stadium. 

The game was a pitcher's duel through the first six innings, highlighted by a career-high eight strikeouts and three 1-2-3 innings from Abby Henderson in the circle.

South Dakota's Clara Edwards matched the effort, recording six strikeouts and holding Coastal scoreless through seven innings.

The Chanticleers threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Delaney Keith singled to right field. Keith then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, but the Coyotes' defense held strong to send the game into extras.

Heading into extra innings the offensive attack was led by Keith who picked up three hits in the game.

Maddy Jennings led off the bottom of the eighth with a single to right field. Moira Baxter then entered as a pinch runner and stole second base. Brie Normandin sealed the victory with a double off the left-field wall, scoring Baxter from second to give the Chanticleers a 1-0 walk-off win.

Picone picked up her 11th win in the circle, holding South Dakota scoreless in 1.2 innings of relief. The victory clinched Coastal's first three-game series win of the season.
