CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team fell 5-2 to James Madison in game two of the series Saturday at St. John Stadium.
The Dukes struck first in the top of the second inning when Reagan Wall reached on a bunt single and advanced to second and third with heads-up baserunning. Lily Romero then laced an RBI single down the left-field line to give JMU a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Payton List and Kylee Gleason hit back-to-back singles to put pressure on the Chanticleers. JMU's Cali Legzdins then sent a ball toward the center-field wall, but
Clara Hudgens made a home run-robbing catch to keep the score at 1-0.
James Madison extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the seventh after Reed Butler cracked a two-run double to right-center field. The Dukes added two more runs on an RBI double and a groundout to push the advantage to 5-0.
The Chanticleers fought back in the bottom of the frame, when
Georgia Hood smashed a two-run single to make it 5-2, but the rally fell short.
Abby Henderson fell to 10-6 on the season, allowing four runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings of work in the circle.
