CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team defeated James Madison 8-3 on Senior Day at St. John Stadium.
The seniors played a major role in the victory, with
Maddy Jennings hitting a home run,
Lucy Goodwin smashing a two-run single,
Keirstin Roose lacing an RBI double, while
Nicolette Picone earned the win in the circle.
James Madison took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Cali Legzdin hit a two-run home run over the left-field wall.
The Chants responded in the bottom half of the inning when
Libby Pippin belted a home run over her own off the videoboard in right field to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Jennings tied the game in the bottom of the third with a solo home run over left field, evening the score at 2-2.
Coastal put the pressure on the Dukes in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with three walks. Goodwin then ripped an RBI double to the center-field wall to give the Chants a 4-2 lead.
The Dukes threatened in the top of the sixth by loading the bases, but Coastal stayed calm and secured the final two outs to hold the score at 4-2.
The Chants added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth when Roose cracked a two-run double and
McKennah Metzger followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to 8-2.
James Madison got one run back in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Lexi Rogers, but Coastal ultimately secured the 8-3 win.
Picone improved to 23-7 on the season, allowing three runs on six hits across 7.0 innings of work.
