Men's Basketball Inks Six During Spring Semester

CONWAY, S.C – Coastal Carolina University officially signed six players to its incoming class this spring, head men's basketball coach Justin Gray announced Wednesday.

The Chanticleers welcome four NCAA Division I transfers: Josh Beadle (Boston College), DaJohn Craig (Oregon State), A.J. Dancler (LeMoyne), and Jerry Ngopot (Louisiana-Monroe), along with Nadjrick Peat from Division II Hawai'i Hilo and Derrick Green from Brunswick (NC) Community College.

A native of Columbia, S.C., Beadle joins the Chanticleers after spending the 2024-25 season at Boston College following a three-year stint at Clemson. A year ago, he averaged 5.9 points and 18.1 minutes per game for the Eagles, shooting 48.6 percent from behind the three-point arc. He played in 31 games and made 16 starts at BC last year, a year after being a key reserve on the Tigers' 2024 Elite Eight squad. The 2025-26 campaign is his final year of eligibility.

"We needed a guy with experience, and he brings winning experience to our program," Gray said. "We needed a guy that can make plays for himself and others with the game on the line, and he has the talent to do both."

Craig, who has three years of eligibility remaining, spent the previous two seasons at Oregon State and played in 22 games. As a sophomore, he suffered a season-ending injury in early January after appearing in 10 games. He shot 46.7 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from outside the three-point arc during the 2024-25 campaign.

"He is a utility guard that can play on and off the ball," Gray said. "He's got springs in his legs, and sometimes it looks like rocket fuel. He's a good defender with quick hands and feet who rebounds well. He's a good shooter who can make plays and will find his way onto the court for us."

Dancler, who has two years of eligibility remaining, averaged 15.1 points and 3.4 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from three-point range last season at LeMoyne in his second season with the Dolphins. He was second-team All-Northeast Conference after ranking among the top 10 in the league in three-pointers made (67/2nd), three-point percentage (2nd), scoring (4th), assists per game (sixth), assist to turnover ratio (1.27/7th) and free throw percentage (.773/10th).

"A.J. is a combo guard who shoots it really well," Gray explained. "He can create his own shot, can guard the position, compete at a high level, but most importantly, he's a gym rat. To be good at basketball that's what you have to be. He's one of those guys who will always be in the gym working hard to get better, and we're excited to have him."

Green comes to CCU after spending his freshman year at Brunswick Community College. The 6-foot-9, Fayetteville, N.C., native averaged 11.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 69.0 percent from the field this past season to help the Dolphins win their fourth NJCAA Region X Championship title. He began his high school career at Fayetteville Seventy-First, winning a state title, before transferring to Fayetteville Academy.

"We see Derrick as a guy who can come in and throw his body around and protect the paint," Gray said. "He has a good touch for a guy his size but plays with a high level of physicality, which we know is needed in the Sun Belt."

Ngopot, whose last name is pronounced N-GO-poe, played for Louisiana-Monroe each of the past two seasons following a two-year stint at Saint Peter's. Born in Bangui in the Central African Republic, he averaged 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this past year. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

"Jerry has experience playing in the league; he played very well against us, which opened our eyes," Gray stated. "He has a physical body with a good outside touch who can play the four or the five. He adds some size and versatility to the front court and can make 3s but is also physical enough to protect the rim."

Peat, who is in his final year of eligibility, is a native of Jamaica and played each of the previous three seasons at NCAA Division II Hawai'i Hilo. He was named the PacWest Conference Defender of the Year twice and became the school's all-time leading rebounder with 648 boards and ranked second in career blocks (181). Last season, he ranked ninth in Division II with 68 blocks and ranked among the top 20 in blocks per game in each of the past three seasons. He averaged 7.7 points and 7.6 rebounds in 85 career games with the Vulcans.

"We needed somebody that's going to protect the rim, and it doesn't matter to Nadjrick if a dude's coming in to dunk it; he's going to try to block it every time," Gray said. "He has a sense of toughness about him, both physically and mentally. It's a step up, but he's ready to take on all challenges and will be a presence in the paint offensively and defensively."

The group joins prep signees Devin Brown (Milwaukee, Wis./Academy of Science) and Tristan Thompson (Florence, S.C./Wilson HS) as part of the signing Class of 2025.
