HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team was edged by the No. 6 Marshall Thundering Herd, 2-1, on Friday evening in Huntington, W.Va.
- With the loss, Coastal falls to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Sun Belt play this season.
- Marshall struck first in the 33rd minute when David Bonilla found the top right corner to give the Herd a 1-0 lead.
- Rai Pinto doubled Marshall's advantage in the 41st minute, converting a penalty kick to make it 2-0.
- Just one minute later, Coastal responded as Angel Lopez's shot ricocheted off the post to the foot of Jaland Larmond, who netted his second goal of the season.
- At the half, the Chants trailed 7-1 in shots and 2-1 in corner kicks.
- Coastal nearly equalized in the 62nd minute when Christian Cook's header was cleared off the goal line to keep the score at 2-1.
- The Chants outshot Marshall 5-2 in the second half and forced two saves in the final 10 minutes but could not break through for the tying goal.
- Coastal played in front of its largest crowd of the season, with 2,051 fans in attendance.
The Chanticleers will return to Conway to face their second straight ranked opponent, No. 22 Kentucky, on Sept. 28. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
