Coastal Carolina Names Mike Uva Associate Athletics Director for Communications and Media

CONWAY — Coastal Carolina Athletics has named Mike Uva as its new associate athletics director for communications and media, the department announced Monday.

 
In this role, Uva will oversee all facets of media relations and digital storytelling strategy for the Chanticleers.

 
"We are thrilled to welcome Mike Uva to Teal Nation," said Chance Miller, vice president for intercollegiate athletics and University recreation. "His extensive background in media, content creation and digital engagement, along with his proven ability to connect with fans and tell compelling stories, will help elevate the Coastal Carolina brand on a national level."

 
Uva brings more than a decade of experience in sports media, broadcasting and strategic communications. Most recently, he worked as a sports reporter, anchor and multimedia contributor for WPRI-TV in Providence, RI., and GamecockCentral.com, part of the On3 Sports Network. At both outlets, he produced in-depth video, written and digital content covering both professional and collegiate sports.

 
A two-time Emmy award-winning sportscaster, Uva spent five years as a sports anchor/reporter at WACH FOX in Columbia There, he was recognized five times by the RTDNAC with sportscaster of the year honors and twice by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. 

 
Before getting his start in TV at WXVT in Greenville, MS, Mike worked as a correspondent for ESPN Boston covering high school sports.

 
"I'm incredibly grateful and excited to join the Coastal Carolina family," Uva said. "This athletics department has built a nationally respected brand, and I'm looking forward to helping tell the stories of our student-athletes, coaches and programs in new and dynamic ways."

 
A native of Massachusetts, Uva is a graduate of Assumption University – where he played four years of collegiate football.

 
He will begin his duties at Coastal Carolina later this month.
