NEW ORLEANS ---- Coastal Carolina football defensive end Noah Arinze has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. The St. Louis, Mo., native played a key role in the Chanticleers' 38-20 road win over South Alabama on Saturday in Mobile, thanks to his dominant pass-rushing performance.
Arinze recorded four total tackles, including a career-high two sacks. On his second sack of the night, the 6-foot-6, 253-pound defender forced a fumble that was scooped up by linebacker Tray Brown and returned 13 yards for a touchdown. It marked Coastal's first defensive touchdown since Tobias Fletcher's 39-yard interception return against Georgia State on Nov. 30 of last season.
Through four games, Arinze leads the the Chanticleers in tackles for loss (3.5) and is tied for seventh in the Sun Belt in that category. He also co-leads the team in sacks (2.0), along with fellow defensive end Zeke Campbell.
Coastal Carolina is idle this week and will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they travel to face Old Dominion. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
