HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - A postgame stat correction resulted in a history-making night for Coastal Carolina junior
Jalyn Stout.
Â
Stout set an NCAA record on Friday, recording her 40th career triple-double with 11 kills, 11 assists, and 11 digs in the Chanticleers' win over Marshall. Initially, she was awarded nine digs in the match.
Â
Jordyn Gates, who played one season at Arkansas and three at Division II Grand Valley State, previously held the record of 39 across all divisions.
"I don't think any reward or achievement I have gotten could ever be possible without my team or my coaches," Stout said. "They all push me to be my best, and I'm forever thankful for that."
Â
Stout entered the season already owning the NCAA Division I record with 34 triple-doubles, four more than the previous mark. As a freshman, she posted an NCAA record 14 triple-doubles, then reset it as a sophomore, logging 20. She has posted seven through the first 12 matches of this season.
"Jalyn is a great athlete, but her competitiveness and fight lead her to be great," Chanticleers head coach
Steve Loeswick said. Â She's not afraid to hit the ground or chase a ball off the court on defense; she gets to many passes that aren't perfect and can still put up a great hittable set for her attackers to be successful, and then her fearlessness at the net to take the big swing when needed."
Stout broke Eastern Illinois' Taylor Smith's Division I career record of 30 against South Alabama on Nov. 15, 2024 (14 kills, 29 assists, 17 digs).
