Beadle’s Career Night, Jones’ Late Free Throws Lift Coastal Past Texas State

CONWAY, S.C.Joshua Beadle scored a career-high 32 points, and Rasheed Jones sank three free throws with 1.1 seconds left to lift Coastal Carolina past Texas State, 72-70, Thursday night at the HTC Center.

With the win, the Chanticleers improved to 12-9 overall and 5-4 in Sun Belt Conference play, while Texas State fell to 11-10 overall and 4-5 in league action.

"It's hard to win in this league, and we're really happy we were able to protect home court tonight," Chanticleers head coach Justin Gray said. "I told our guys that good teams find a way to win. We won this game because of how we practiced the days before."

Coastal built momentum coming out of halftime and stretched its lead to 48-35 with 13:41 remaining in the second half, matching its largest advantage of the night at 13 points. Texas State answered with a run of its own, chipping away throughout the final 10 minutes before taking its first lead of the second half at 66-65 with 2:26 to play.

The Bobcats pushed the margin to 70-65 with 1:28 left, but Coastal responded immediately. Beadle scored on a jumper in the paint to pull the Chants within three, and after a defensive stop, Jones knocked down two free throws with 43 seconds remaining to make it 70-69.

Texas State came up empty on the ensuing possession, and Jones was fouled on a three-point attempt. The senior calmly buried three free throws as Coastal closed the game on a 7-0 run to earn its fourth straight win.

Beadle finished 11-of-19 from the floor and 10-of-12 at the line. AJ Dancler added 13 points, and Jones chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

Texas State was led by Mark Drone's 24 points, while DJ Hall added 23 points.

Coastal shot 41.5% (22-of-53) from the field and went 22-of-29 at the free throw line. Texas State finished at 37.9% (25-of-66) shooting and went 19-of-21 at the stripe.

The Chanticleers return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 24, against Southern Miss. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. start inside the HTC Center.
