CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina will try to keep rolling in Sun Belt Conference play Saturday when it hosts Southern Miss in a 1 p.m. matinee at the HTC Center.
The Chanticleers (12-9, 5-4 SBC) have won four straight games and are looking to push their streak to five for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Southern Miss (11-10, 5-4) enters tied with Coastal for eighth place in the league standings.
Coastal is coming off a dramatic 72-70 win over Texas State on Thursday night.
Joshua Beadle scored a career-high 32 points, and
Rasheed Jones made three free throws with 1.1 seconds left after drawing a foul on a 3-point attempt to lift the Chanticleers over the Bobcats.
Southern Miss fell 69-62 at Georgia State on Thursday. The Golden Eagles have dropped three straight road games and are 3-8 away from Hattiesburg this season, though they own a 6-1 home record and are 2-1 at neutral sites.
Coastal has played tight games throughout league play, with eight of its last nine decided by six points or fewer, but are 6-2 in those games and have won three straight.
Beadle has been at the center of the surge, scoring at least 18 points in five consecutive games and averaging 23.8 points per contest during that stretch. He,
AJ Dancler and Jones have combined for 222 of Coastal's 303 points in the four-game winning streak — 73.2 percent of the team's scoring output.
Coastal has also leaned on the foul line during the run, shooting 74-of-95 (77.9 percent) over the past four games while opponents have gone 58-of-82 (70.7 percent). For the season, Coastal has attempted more free throws than its opponent in six of nine conference games.
Southern Miss is led by Tylik Weeks, who ranks third in the Sun Belt at 17.6 points per game. Weeks is also among the league leaders in efficiency, ranking seventh in field-goal percentage (.476) and shooting 81.1 percent at the line. He has made a Sun Belt-best 107 free throws on 132 attempts.
Isaac Taveras is the Golden Eagles' other double-figure scorer at 15.8 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 6.7 per game. Djahi Binet leads Southern Miss on the glass at 7.3 rebounds per contest, the seventh-best average in the conference.
Saturday's game is the fourth meeting between the programs since Southern Miss joined the Sun Belt in 2024. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series 2-1, with the road team winning each of the first two regular-season match-ups before Southern Miss eliminated Coastal with a 66-63 win in the first round of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.
Coastal is 0-1 at home against Southern Miss, with the Golden Eagles earning a 79-63 victory in Conway on Jan. 24, 2024. The Chanticleers earned their first win in the series with an 87-78 victory at Southern Miss on Feb. 20, 2025.
