CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina swept Saturday's doubleheader against Fairfield at Springs Brooks Stadium, earning 5-1 and 5-0 victories to complete a three-game series sweep and improve to 3-0 on the season.
Game 1 – Coastal Carolina 5, Fairfield 1
The Chanticleers struck early and never trailed in the first game of the day. Coastal plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Blagen Pado put the Chants on the board with a two-run home run to left field, and later in the inning Dean Mihos connected on a two-run homer to extend the lead to 4-0. This marked the first time since last May 31 against ECU that Coastal hit multiple home runs in the same inning (Sebastian Alexander and Colby Thorndyke in the 7th).
Ross Norman (1-0) earned the win, allowing one run on four hits over 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and no walks. Jaxon Appelman and Colby Richardson combined to allow just one hit over the final 4.0 scoreless innings.
Coastal finished with five runs on six hits. Notably, the Chanticleers did not strike out in the game, marking the first time since May 26, 2012 vs. Liberty that Coastal completed a game without recording a strikeout at the plate.
Game 2 – Coastal Carolina 5, Fairfield 0
In the nightcap, Coastal broke through with a five-run sixth inning and rode dominant pitching to the shutout.
After five scoreless frames, the Chanticleers erupted in the bottom of the sixth. Trace Mazon delivered the decisive blow with a three-run triple. Walker Mitchell followed with an RBI single, and Pado added a sacrifice fly to cap the five-run inning.
Luke Jones struck out seven over 4.1 scoreless innings before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Scott Doran (1-0) earned the win with 1.2 hitless innings and four strikeouts, while freshman Case Bosch recorded his first collegiate save, striking out six over 3.0 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.
As a staff, Coastal pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts in the shutout, marking the program's most strikeouts in a non-conference game since 2021 against Wake Forest.
With the two wins Saturday, Coastal Carolina completed the three-game series sweep of Fairfield.
