Women's Basketball Closes Out Home Schedule with App State, Old Dominion

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's basketball (12-15, 5-9) closes out their regular-season home schedule with Appalachian State on Wednesday and Old Dominion on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. ET Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. (or 30 minutes after the men's game) on Saturday and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network. 

ABOUT THE CHANTS

  • Despite being 5-9 in conference play, the Chants are still the sixth-best Sun Belt team in the NET rankings, ranking 128th overall.
  • The Chanticleers are one of the highest-volume three-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 17th with 8.9 three-pointers per game and 34th with 25.4 three-point attempts per game.  
  • Coastal fell 67-56 to Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Chants trailed just 30-29 at half before being held to nine points in the third quarter.
  • Coastal went 18-57 (32%) from the field and 7-17 (41%) from three-point range, while making 13 of 17 free throws.
  • Tessa Grady led the Chants in scoring for the sixth game in a row with 14. 
  • Through 26 games, Coastal ranks 57th in the country with 73.9 points per game
  • Grady leads the team with 14.3 points per game. 

ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • Georgia Southern holds an 11-14 overall record and 4-10 in Sun Belt play, currently in 10th in the conference standings. 
  • The Eagles beat Georgia State 73-67 in overtime in Boone, N.C. on Saturday. 
  • Daisia Mitchell leads the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game. 
  • Alaura Sharp is in her second season as the head coach of the Mountaineers with a record of 24-31.

ABOUT THE MONARCHS
  • Old Dominion holds an 15-12 overall record and 6-8 in Sun Belt play, currently in seventh in the conference standings. 
  • The Monarchs lost to JMU 87-53 in Norfolk, Va. on Saturday and are set to meet Georgia State on Thursday in Atlanta.
  • Simaru Fields leads the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game. 
  • DeLisha Milton-Jones is in her sixth season as the head coach of the Monarchs with a record of 114-71.   

TESSA'S TIME
  • Junior Tessa Grady has reached another level the last six games, averaging 21.2 points per game.
  • In those five games, Grady has shot 56% (45-80) from the field and 50% from three (23-46). 
  • Grady ranks third in the conference during Sun Belt play in three-point percentage at 40%.

THREE-POINT PARTY
  • Currently, Coastal ranks 17th in the country with 8.9 made three-pointers per game.
  • The Chants are also ranked 34th in the country with 25.4 three-point attempts per contest.
  • Both Kristin Williams and Tessa Grady rank in the top-20 in the country for made three-pointers, with Williams tied for 10th (78) and Grady tied for 17th (76).
  • Williams and Grady rank second and third in the SBC with 2,9 and 2.8 three-pointers per game.

COASTAL CHAOS
  • Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term "Coastal Chaos" prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable. 
  • The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
  • This season, Coastal ranks 52nd in the country with 19.7 turnovers forced per game, and 137th with a turnover margin of 1.3.
