CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina will close its home schedule Saturday when it hosts Marshall at the HTC Center, looking to secure its first winning season in four years.
Saturday also marks the final home game for seven seniors and graduate players:
Joshua Beadle,
Charles Dunlap,
Reggie Hill,
Jackson Keil,
Connor Martin,
Jerry Ngopot and
Nadjrick Peat.
Coastal is coming off a narrow 67-65 loss to James Madison on Wednesday. The Chanticleers led by five with 7:40 to play before being outscored 15-8 down the stretch. Beadle scored 31 points, while Hill added 11 rebounds and Peat recorded four blocks.
Close games have become the norm. Seventeen of Coastal's contests have been decided by six points or fewer, with the Chants posting an 11-6 record in those games. Ten of their last 11 victories have come by six points or less.
Beadle,
Rasheed Jones and
AJ Dancler have powered the offense throughout the season. The trio ranks first, second and third on the team in scoring, combining for a league-best 47.5 points per game. Each averages approximately 15 points per contest and ranks among the Sun Belt's top 20 scorers. Coastal is 10-4 when all three score in double figures.
The Chanticleers have used the same starting lineup in 26 consecutive games dating to Nov. 11 and recently recorded their first five-game winning streak since the 2018-19 season.
Marshall (18-10, 10-5) enters tied for first place in the Sun Belt and is one of the conference's top offensive teams, averaging 80.9 points per game. The Thundering Herd lead the league in 3-pointers per game (10.4), assists (17.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.45).
Coastal defeated Marshall 85-83 in Huntington, W.Va., earlier this season for its first road win in the series. Dancler and Beadle scored 26 points apiece in that matchup, and Peat delivered the game-winning basket.
All seven meetings between the programs have come since Marshall joined the Sun Belt. Coastal is 1-2 at home in the series.
