Lacrosse Suffers First Loss At Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson scored three times in the fourth quarter to rally past Coastal Carolina 6-5 on Sunday afternoon.

Coastal Carolina (4-1) led 3-1 midway through the second quarter and took a 4-3 advantage into the final 15 minutes, but the Wildcats (4-0) closed with the game's final three goals to remain unbeaten.

After Davidson opened the scoring on Allie Hartnett's goal at the 13:13 mark of the first, the Chanticleers answered with two goals in the final 2:58 of the quarter. Gabrielle Beaudet tied it with 2:58 left off an assist from Megan Hummel, then Alyson Mascolo gave Coastal the lead with 2:03 remaining to make it 2-1.

Carleigh Patterson extended the lead to 3-1 at 10:33 of the second, finishing a feed from Alexandra Horn. Davidson responded with a pair of goals — Jacqueline Callahan scored at 7:14 off an assist from Kaitlyn Uller, and Hartnett tied the game at 3 with a free-position goal with 52 seconds left in the half.

Sophie Kingsborough put Coastal back in front with a free-position goal at 6:52 of the third quarter, sending the Chanticleers into the fourth with a 4-3 lead. Kingsborough struck again on a player-up goal at 8:25 of the fourth to push Coastal ahead 5-3, but Davidson immediately answered as Brooke Ross scored at the 7:00 mark.

The Wildcats tied it on Jenna Skibbe's free-position goal at 5:47, then took the lead for good when Kaitlyn Uller scored with 2:16 remaining.

Kingsborough led Coastal with two goals, while Beaudet, Mascolo and Patterson also scored. Hummel and Horn each had an assist. Charlotte Sadler made nine saves for the Chanticleers as Davidson held a 32-12 edge in shots and an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The Chanticleers return to action Saturday, Feb. 28, at William & Mary.
