CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina continues Sun Belt Conference play Tuesday night with a road match-up at Georgia State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (ESPN+) at the GSU Convocation Center in Atlanta.
The Chanticleers enter the contest coming off a 79-75 victory over Marshall on Saturday at the HTC Center.
Rasheed Jones scored a career-high 29 points and
Nadjrick Peat set a school record with seven blocks as Coastal led wire-to-wire before sealing the win with late free throws and defensive stops.
Joshua Beadle added 18 points and
AJ Dancler chipped in 10.
Coastal has gone 4-2 in February, including road wins over Louisiana and ULM, and sits tied for sixth place in the Sun Belt standings entering the week. Georgia State is 10-19 overall and 1-5 this month, with its lone February victory coming at home against Georgia Southern.
The Chanticleers continue to lean on one of the conference's most productive scoring trios in Beadle, Jones and Dancler. The group ranks first, second and third on the team in scoring and combines for a Sun Belt-best 47.8 points per game. All three rank among the league's top 16 scorers — Beadle fifth, Jones 14th and Dancler 16th — and Coastal is 11-4 this season when all three score in double figures.
In the previous meeting this season in Conway, Coastal led 34-25 at halftime and pushed the margin to 11 early in the second half before Georgia State erupted from the perimeter. The Panthers hit 14 of 15 3-point attempts after the break, shot 76 percent overall in the second half and closed the game on a 25-7 run to secure an 89-71 victory.
Rasheed Jones scored 18 points and
AJ Dancler added 16, while Coastal held a 38-32 rebounding edge with 16 offensive boards.
The all-time series between the programs is tied 10-10, though Coastal will look to snap a three-game losing streak in Atlanta.
Georgia State is led by fourth-year head coach Jonas Hayes. Iowa State transfer Jelani Hamilton leads the Panthers with 17.8 points per game, while Micah Tucker (13.2) and Malachia Brown (11.8) also average double figures. Jonah Chappelle leads the team in rebounding at 4.9 per game, and the Panthers lead the Sun Belt in free throw percentage at 78.9 percent.
A Coastal Carolina victory would give the Chanticleers their 10th Sun Belt win of the season, tying the program record, while also securing a winning conference record and winning road record.
