CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a 10-2 run-rule loss to the Virginia Cavaliers on day three of the Kickin' Chicken Classic.
Virginia opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Macee Eaton and Jaiden Griffith each delivered two-run singles. Eaton later crossed home plate on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0.
The Chants responded in the bottom of the first frame when
Brie Normandin ripped an RBI single, and
Georgia Hood scored on a fielder's choice in the next at-bat to narrow the gap to 5-2.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Cavaliers added another run when Eaton laced an RBI single to center field to push Virginia's lead to 6-2.
Virginia put the game away in the top of the fifth inning when Alex Call blasted a leadoff home run, Jade Hilton followed with a two-run double, and Kassidy Hudson added a sacrifice fly to secure the 10-2 run-rule victory.
Mackenzie Childers dropped to 1-1 in the circle, allowing five runs on one hit in the outing.
