CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team cruised past the Akron Zips 10–2 on Monday afternoon at St. John Stadium.
Brie Normandin put the Chants on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, driving home
Libby Pippin on a fielder's choice to give CCU a 1–0 lead.
Coastal tacked on five runs in the bottom of the second inning on RBI singles from
Clara Hudgens,
Delaney Keith, and
Kaelin Cash, along with a sacrifice fly by
McKennah Metzger to extend the lead to 6–0.
Akron responded in the top of the third inning, scoring on a single and a double steal to narrow the gap to 6–2.
The Chants answered in the bottom of the third, adding two more runs on RBI singles from Keith and
Georgia Hood to push the lead to 8–2.
Coastal closed out the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Keith blooped a two-run single over the third baseman's head, securing the 10–2 run-rule victory.
Savannah Jones improved to 1–1 on the season, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.0 innings of work.
The Chants will hit the road to take on North Carolina on Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. ET.
