NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season, Coastal Carolina junior
AJ Dancler has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
Dancler becomes the third player to receive the Sun Belt's top weekly honor twice this season alongside Georgia Southern's Spudd Webb and South Alabama's Chaze Harris. The last Coastal Carolina player to earn Player of the Week twice in a season was DeVante Jones in 2020-21.
Dancler earned the honor after averaging 26.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor (18-of-34) and knocking down 7-of-15 (.467) from 3-point range in road wins over Georgia State and James Madison.
Dancler matched his career high with 32 points in the Chanticleers' 76-71 win at Georgia State. He shot 60.0 percent from the field, making 12-of-20 attempts, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Dancler also went 4-for-4 at the free-throw line, sinking two foul shots with 14 seconds to play to seal the victory. He followed that performance with 20 points in Coastal's first-ever victory over James Madison.
Dancler ranks second on the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game and is eighth in the conference. He also ranks among the Sun Belt's top 10 in 3-pointers per game (2.45/7th), total 3-point field goals made (76/7th), defensive rebounds per game (4.9/7th), and minutes per game (33:04/8th).
Coastal Carolina finished the regular season tied for second place in the Sun Belt standings and earned the No. 3 seed in the conference championship. The Chanticleers will open play in the quarterfinals on March 7 at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Fla., against an opponent to be determined. Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 9 p.m. ET.
