CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's golf team will return to action this weekend as the Chanticleers travel to Awendaw, S.C., to compete in the Hootie Intercollegiate, set for March 22-24 at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The three-day, 54-hole event will feature 18 holes each day on the par-72 layout, which stretches more than 7,200 yards.
Coastal Carolina will face a strong 15-team field that includes four top-50 teams: No. 37 Clemson, No. 39 Kansas, No. 43 South Carolinn and No. 45 Purdue along with Appalachian State, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Kent State, Missouri, West Virginia and Winthrop.
Coastal enters the weekend with momentum after a strong performance at the Michael A. Marino Classic, where the Chanticleers posted a 54-hole score of 861 (290-277-294) to finish tied for third in a 16-team field, highlighted by a tournament-low 277 in the second round.
Senior
Max Bengtsson, who shared individual medalist honors at the Marino Classic, will lead the Chanticleers' five-man lineup.
Jack Lee,
Drew Sykes,
Harrison James and
Santiago Schele round out the lineup.
Coastal finished tied for 10
th at the event last season at 9-under 855. Lee and Sykes each shot 2-under, while Bengtsson finished at 1-under.
The Chanticleers will play alongside Florida Gulf Coast and Kent State in the first round with the groups teeing off No. 10 at 9:45 a.m.
