CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a 20–8 loss to Florida State on Friday evening at St. John Stadium.
The Seminoles opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Jaysoni Beachum hit an RBI single to make the score 1–0.
Coastal responded in the bottom of the first inning when
Delaney Keith and
Georgia Hood belted back-to-back home runs.
Brie Normandin then laced a single up the middle and
McKennah Metzger brought her home on a two-run home run to give CCU a 4–1 lead.
Florida State responded in the top of the second inning, driving in four runs on back-to-back RBI singles by Isa Torres and Beachum to regain the lead at 5–4.
Coastal battled right back in the bottom of the second, scoring on a fielder's choice and a Normandin single to take control, 6–5.
In the top of the fourth inning, Kennedy Harp cracked a two-run home run to push FSU back in front, 7–6.
The Seminoles added another run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Torres to make the score 8–6.
CCU tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of back-to-back RBI singles from
Libby Pippin and
Clara Hudgens to even the score at 8–8.
Florida State ran away with the game in the final two innings, scoring four runs in the sixth and adding eight runs in the seventh to secure the 20–8 victory.
Abby Henderson fell to 5–7 in the circle, allowing 12 runs on 16 hits over 5.2 innings of work.
