CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a 5-4 comeback loss to the Marshall Thundering Herd at St. John Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Marshall took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Sydni Burko laced an RBI double down the left field line to drive in Chandler Hoskins from first base.
The Thundering Herd added to its lead in the top of the third inning when Tia Titi hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 2-0.
The Chants evened the score in the bottom of the third inning when Delaney Keith and Brie Normandin each cracked home runs to tie the game 2-2.
Coastal pushed ahead for the first time in the bottom of the fourth frame scoring two runs on a groundout and a Georgia Hood single to give CCU a 4-2 lead.
Marshall mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh inning when Ava Blake belted a three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Thundering Herd the 5-4 victory.
Abby Henderson dropped to 7-12 in the circle, allowing five runs off eight hits over 6.1 innings of work.
