CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team fell short in game three of the series to the Marshall Thundering Herd, dropping the contest 15-7 on Sunday afternoon at St. John Stadium.
Marshall took an early charge at the top of the first inning with a home run from Ava Blake to take the lead 1-0.
The Chanticleers answered back at the bottom of the first inning when Georgia Hood hit her seventeenth home run of the year over the center field wall to level the score 1-1.
The Thundering Herd regained the lead in the top of the second inning, exploding for five runs on an RBI single, a passed ball, and a three-run home run by Sydni Burko to make the score 6-1.
Coastal narrowed the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the third frame when Kaelin Cash launched a three-run home run over the center field wall.
Marshall extended its lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring two runs on an RBI triple from Diamond Leslie and a one-run single from Haleigh Adkins to make the score 8-4.
The Chants responded in the bottom of the fourth when Hood cracked her second home run of the game to cut the deficit to 8-6.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Thundering Herd added an insurance run when Tia Titi ripped an RBI double to right center field to give Marshall a 9-6 advantage.
Marshall continued to fire in the top of the sixth frame when Burko recorded her fourth RBI of the game, hitting a one-run single to left field to make the score 10-6.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Coastal's Livi Payne hit her first home run of the season to tighten the score 10-7.
The Thundering Herd put the game to rest in the top of the seventh inning with a five-run inning to take the 15-7 victory.
Kate Ryan dropped to 5-1 in the circle, giving up six runs on seven hits over 1.1 innings of work.
