Beach Volleyball Earns Numerous Sun Belt Postseason Awards, Wilson Repeats as Coach of the Year

FOLEY, ALA. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team earned six Sun Belt postseason awards with four pairs earning All-Sun Belt honors, Courtney Burnham winning Freshman of the Year, and Collin Wilson being named Coach of the Year the league announced on Wednesday.

It marks the fourth time in program history that Coastal has won a conference Freshman of the Year award and third in a row, while Wilson earned Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year.

In his third season as the head coach, Wilson led Coastal Carolina to an undefeated Sun Belt season for the second straight year, going 6-0 in conference play and 21-10 overall. Wilson has now led Coastal to back-to-back Sun Belt regular season titles and will once again take the No. 1 seed to the Sun Belt tournament.

Burnham, a native of Summerfield, N.C., finished the regular season with a 23-8 record, finding her most success with partner Maya McNabney with a 17-2 record across flights two and three. The pair also picked up All-Sun Belt Second Team Honors. Burnham is Coastal's third-straight Sun Belt Freshman of the Year winner, joining Frida Meincke Lyø (2025) and Denisse Morgenstern (2024).

Additionally, Lyø and Emma Kunaus were named the All-Sun Belt first team for the second straight year. It's the third time Kunaus has collected All-Sun Belt honors after being named to the first team last year and in 2024 with partner Ellie Hanford. Kunaus and Lyø recorded an 18-13 overall record in the No. 1 flight this season.

Joining them on the All-Sun Belt First Team was the pairing of Ava Novello and Karis Gordon. It's the second All-Sun Belt honor for Novello, who earned second team honors last year with partner Raychel Ehlers. Novello and Gordon finished with a 20-1 overall record across flights four and five, finishing the season on an 18-match winning streak.

Additionally, the pairing of Anna Rita and Madeline Sigmon also picked up All-Sun Belt Second Team honors. Rita and Sigmon teamed up to post an 11-2 overall record, going 7-2 on court two and 4-0 on court three.

The Chants (21-10, 6-0 SBC) will hold the No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament in Foley, Ala. later this week. Their first match is set for 4:15 p.m. ET Thursday against the winner of No. 4 UNCW vs. No. 5 Charleston.
