Women's Lacrosse Fast Start Spoiled By Lindenwood Rally

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Coastal Carolina dropped a tightly contested Atlantic Sun Conference matchup, falling 10–9 to Lindenwood on Friday afternoon at Hunter Stadium.

The Chanticleers (8-5, 1-3 ASUN) controlled the game early, building a 5–2 halftime lead and extending the margin to 6–2 early in the third quarter before Lindenwood (5-8, 2-3) rallied late to escape with the one-goal win.

Coastal Carolina was paced by Alyson Mascolo, who finished with three goals, while Alexandra Horn added two goals and two assists to lead the offense. Sophie Kingsborough, Megan Hummel, Charlotte Erb and Carleigh Patterson also found the back of the net for the Chants.

The Chants dictated play throughout much of the first half, jumping out to an early lead behind Kingsborough's opening goal and pushing the advantage to four on scores from Mascolo, Hummel and Erb. Coastal carried a 5–2 lead into the break.

Lindenwood shifted momentum in the third quarter, using a four-goal run to erase Coastal's lead and tie the game at 6–6. The Lions carried that surge into the fourth, scoring three straight goals to take a 9–6 advantage.

Mascolo and Horn each scored in the final 10 minutes to cut the deficit to one, but the Chants were unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

Charlotte Sadler totaled eight saves in goal for Coastal, while the Chants generated 28 shots and 22 on goal.

Lindenwood was led by Luci Selander and Alissa DiGiacinto with three goals apiece, with DiGiacinto scoring the eventual game-winner midway through the fourth quarter.

The Chanticleers return to action Wednesday, April 9, against Queens University of Charlotte. The first draw is set for 2 p.m. at Brooks Stadium.
