CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina used a dominant first half and a balanced offensive effort to cruise past Queens (NC), 15-4, in Atlantic Sun Conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon at Brooks Stadium.
The Chanticleers (9-5, 2-3 ASUN) placed four players with three or more points and built a commanding 8-2 halftime lead, never allowing the Royals (3-10, 3-3) to generate sustained momentum.
Coastal set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the opening quarter behind goals from
Alyson Mascolo,
Gabrielle Beaudet and
Nikki Seven. After Queens briefly trimmed the deficit to two, the Chants responded with a decisive second-quarter surge, scoring five times in the period to extend the margin to six at the break.
Beaudet led the offensive charge with a game-high five goals and one assist, while Mascolo added four goals.
Sophie Kingsborough contributed three goals and an assist, including the game-winner, and Seven finished with two goals and an assist.
Alexandra Horn facilitated the attack with three assists as Coastal recorded six helpers on its 15 goals.
Defensively, the Chanticleers controlled possession and limited Queens to just four goals on 23 shots. Goalkeeper
Charlotte Sadler anchored the effort with nine saves, including four in the fourth quarter, to help Coastal hold the Royals scoreless over the final 15 minutes.
Queens (3-11, 2-6 ASUN) was led by four different goal scorers, but struggled to convert opportunities, finishing with just 12 shots on goal and committing 16 turnovers.
After Queens scored twice in the third quarter to cut into the deficit, Coastal answered with a 5-0 fourth-quarter run, highlighted by late goals from Kingsborough, Beaudet and Seven to put the game away.
The Chanticleers outshot the Royals 28-23 and held advantages in ground balls (22-18) and draw controls (9-11), while also forcing 16 turnovers to maintain control throughout the contest.
Coastal Carolina travels to Delaware on Saturday for its final road game of the season.
