NEWARK, Del. — A six-goal third quarter proved the difference as the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers fell 14-10 to the Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday at Delaware Stadium.
Coastal Carolina (9-6, 2-4) trailed 6-2 at halftime before Delaware (10-4, 6-0) broke the game open with six unanswered goals in the third to extend the lead to 12-2.
The Chanticleers mounted a late push with an eight-goal fourth quarter, but the deficit proved too large to erase.
Alexandra Horn led Coastal offensively with four goals and two assists, while
Gabrielle Beaudet added three goals.
Sophie Kingsborough also finished with a hat trick, scoring all three of her goals in the final quarter as part of the Chants' rally.
Carleigh Patterson dished out three assists, with Nikki Seven and Beaudet each adding an assist in the loss.
Delaware set the tone early, scoring three times in the opening quarter and adding three more in the second to take a 6-2 halftime lead. The Blue Hens then broke the game open with six goals in the third quarter, including a quick three-goal burst in a span of just over a minute.
Coastal found its rhythm late, scoring eight of the final 10 goals of the game. Horn scored twice on free-position opportunities in the fourth, while Kingsborough and Beaudet each added a goal during the surge.

Charlotte Sadler made eight saves for the Chanticleers.
Despite the late offensive momentum, Delaware controlled the draw circle (19-7) and capitalized on extra-player opportunities, finishing with four man-up goals.
Coastal returns home Thursday, April 16, to host Liberty at 1 p.m. inside Brooks Stadium.
