Devine Named to National Team of the Week

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Coastal Carolina men's soccer goalkeeper Will Devine has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer (TDS) National Team of the Week following a standout performance against No. 2 NC State.
Devine becomes just the 26th Chanticleer in program history to earn a spot on the TDS National Team of the Week and the first Coastal player to receive recognition since October 2024, when fellow goalkeeper Harrison Gough was selected.
"Being named to the TDS National Team of the Week means a lot to me," Devine said. "Growing up in a small town in Iowa with not much exposure and as a JUCO product from Iowa Western Community College, this recognition feels very important."
The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native made an immediate impact in his debut in Teal and Bronze, helping the Chants battle the second-ranked Wolfpack to a 0-0 draw in the season opener. Devine faced 19 shots and recorded four saves across his 90 minutes of action.
"Will's performance in the NC State match was exemplary," head coach Adam Perron said. "They have one of the best and most difficult college soccer environments to play in, and he handled himself in such a mature and professional manner, showing poise and confidence while also being very brave and reactive."
His performance also earned recognition from the Sun Belt Conference, as Devine was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
For Devine, the recognition is another step toward a long-term goal of playing professional soccer, a dream he continues to pursue in honor of his late best friend.
"I truly hope it inspires others to never quit on their dreams no matter how hard things get," Devine said. "I play for God and I give all my accomplishments and glory to Him. I am trying to keep the dream of playing pro soccer alive in honor of my best friend who passed away in 2022. He's the reason I still play and is why I wear number 30."
Perron believes Devine's performance is only the beginning of what the young goalkeeper can accomplish.
"Will is a young man with such tremendous potential that we are only scratching the surface. He has worked very hard to get to this point in his career and I am very proud of him. We talk to our guys about creating a legacy and leaving a positive mark on the program," Perron said. "So to be considered, even in one game week, as one of the top performers in the country by TDS makes a massive statement of intent about the level he aspires to reach. There is still a lot of work to be done, but a great marker for Will at this stage of the season to keep pushing himself to get better every day,"
Coastal will return to action on Aug. 29 when the Chants host Stetson at the CCU Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
