Danielle Penner was named Coastal Carolina University Associate Head Coach August 1, 2017.
Penner’s focus is on the pitching development of the Chanticleer pitching staff.
The 2019 season saw an improvement to the staff’s team earned run average from 2018 by more than a half run. (.62)
Penner’s 2019 staff saw success against Power 5 competition as they had a 4-3 record with wins versus Pitt (2) Penn State (1)

Kaitlin Beasley-Polko became the first Chanticleer to win 20 games in a season since 2012.
Guillete was second in the Sun Belt with 29 games started while pitching in 36 and a record of 14-13. Beasley-Polko went 12-14, a 3.70 earn run average in 149.1 innings. She showed flashes of her potential as she faced some of the top talent in the country when she went six innings on one earned run versus No. 16 Arizona State and Breanna Macha in a 4-2 loss on March 2 and then followed it up later in the season against the top pitcher in the Sun Belt, Randi Rupp of Texas State as she pitched seven innings in a 1-0 loss on March 17.
Prior to CCU, Penner served as head coach at Barry University (Fla.) for the past 12 years. She became the institution's all-time winning coach compiling a 404-210 overall record, including a 184-99 record in the Sunshine State Conference.
Under Penner's leadership, the Bucs won 32 or more games nine times and had winning seasons in 11 of her 12 seasons.
During her 12 seasons she led the Buccaneers to six NCAA Tournament bids and the 2008 SSC Championship, in which they won 35 consecutive games.
Penner has coached 60 All-SSC players, 18 All-Americans, 55 All-Region honorees and 102 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar All-America award winners.
Her softball teams were also classroom leaders as well. They consistently posted GPA's of 3.3 or higher during her 12 years at the helm of the program.
Penner played four seasons at California University Pennsylvania (CUP) where she became one of the most accomplished and decorated players in NCAA Division II softball history. She was voted to the NCAA Division II Silver Anniversary Softball Team.
During her career at CUP, she went 144-15, setting division records for wins and winning percentage (.906). She was a three-time NFCA All-American and earned regional tournament honors in 1996, 1997 and 1998. She was named the MVP in 1997 and 1998 when CUP won the national title.
Penner was perfect on the mound during her four seasons in conference play. She fashioned an 80-0 conference record, earning all-conference honors each season and was named the MVP following her junior and senior campaigns.
In leading CUP to the national title in 1997, Penner won a Division II record 50 games on the mound while only losing three. Her 50 wins against only three losses gave her a .943 winning percentage. Her 0.51 ERA was the nation's best.
In 1998, after leading CUP back to the national title, she earned the NCAA Division II National Softball Player of the Year Award from the NFCA, while also being named the Honda-Broderick Female Athlete of the Year for Division II.
She was a member of Team Ontario from 1994-97. She led the team to the bronze medal at the Canadian National Championships earning MVP honors in 1996.
She graduated from CUP in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and management. She also has a master's degree in sport management and an MBA from Barry University, earning both in 2004
