Abby Thorne

Abby Thorne enters her second season as an assistant coach with the Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse program in 2027 after joining the Chanticleers in the summer of 2025.

Working primarily with Coastal Carolina's defense, Thorne helped guide the Chanticleers to their fifth consecutive ASUN Championship appearances. Under her direction, the Chants ranked fourth in the ASUN in ground balls per game and fifth in caused turnovers. She also helped develop First Team All-ASUN defender Grace Lord and IWLCA Senior All-Star Team selection Lily Wallace.

In addition to her coaching duties at Coastal Carolina, Thorne continues to compete internationally. A native of Australia, she was named to the 2026 Australian Lacrosse Women's Sixes National Team after previously representing her country at the 2022 World Championships and World Games and earning a spot on Australia's senior national team for the 2025 World Games.

Thorne joined the Chanticleers following an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh. A four-year letterwinner and team captain, she concluded her career ranked first in program history in caused turnovers (54), ground balls (92), and games started (68), while also ranking among the Panthers' all-time leaders in games played.

In 2025, Thorne received Pitt's prestigious Script Writer Award, presented annually to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the athletics department's commitment to excellence in competition, academics, leadership, community engagement, and personal development.

A standout both on the field and in the classroom, Thorne earned All-ACC Academic Team honors and was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Squad during her collegiate career.

Thorne graduated from Pittsburgh with a bachelor's degree and remains one of the most accomplished defensive players in program history.
