CONWAY, S.C. — Coastal Carolina University scored a 2-1 victory over Elon
University in the Chanticleers' Big South Conference opener on Saturday
night at CCU Soccer Stadium. Coastal improves to 3-4 overall, while Elon
falls to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in Big South play.
Littlefield's goal, his first of the season, in the opening minute of the
match came after a pair of excellent passes from Thomas Rutter and Matt
Feraci. Rutter passed the ball into space and Feraci took one touch before
crossing the ball from right to left. Littlefield dove toward the pass and
placed a header into the upper left corner.
Baldur Knutsson gave the Chanticleers a two goal lead on a brilliant one-man
effort down the left flank. Knutsson dribbled between the legs of an Elon
defender and beat two others on his way to his first goal of the season.
Once in the box, the Reykjavik, Iceland, native beat Elon keeper Paul Reuter
just inside the near post.
Elon's Paul Bellacqua closed the gap to one goal in the 56th minute of play.
The Phoenix' Marcus Lagas, who had checked into the match just 15 seconds
earlier, passed the ball into the box where Bellacqua beat Coastal keeper
Michael Savage to the ball and dribbled the ball into the net.
