CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina's men's soccer team scored four goals in the final 19 minutes of play to come from behind and defeat visiting Liberty, 5-3, Oct. 19. With the win, the 14th-ranked Chanticleers go to 10-2-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in Big South play, while the Flames dropped to 5-4-1 and 3-1-0 in the conference.

The Flames got on the board first, as Brantley Kellum got the first of his two goals on a beautiful feed from Bobby Dabbs and put it in the right side of the goal for a 1-0 lead less than nine minutes into the game. CCU came back six minutes later with a goal of its own, with Jordie Hughes completely a stellar give-and-go from Joseph Ngwenya's back-heel pass to knot the game at one. However, Liberty would score twice in the final 10 minutes of the half, with Kellum getting his second on a feed from Pavel Cancura and then Cancura scoring his won with just under three minutes to go in the half for a 3-1 Liberty lead at halftime.

Coastal came out on the attack in the second half, with eight shots on goal and 13 shots overall, but couldn't crack the defense until the 72nd minute, when Boyzzz Khumalo took another give-and-go from Ngwenya and put it in the net to cut the margin to 3-2. Khumalo continued his play on the following goal, as he put the ball in the box for Itayi Pondwa's header that tied the game at three with just under 13 minutes to play. Another opportunity presented itself in the 82nd minute, as Khumalo's corner kick went to the back post where Dario Grassini found it and headed it in for a 4-3 Coastal lead, with Khumalo sealing it with just under three minutes to play with his second goal of the match on assists from Ngwenya and Hughes.

Coastal was the aggressor offensively throughout the game, outshooting Liberty 19-5. Coastal's five goals tied a season high and Khumalo's six points were also a team season best. Kevin Mahan had eight saves for the Flames, while Andy Paxton, who came in for the second half, had one save in earning the win. The match was very physical, with 27 fouls and six yellow cards between the two teams.

The Chants are back on the field, Wed., Oct. 22, hosting defending Big South Champion Winthrop at 7 p.m. The game is the rescheduled match from Oct. 8, when weather prohibited the two teams from playing.
