Volleyball Sweeps Big South Awards for Second Straight Week

CONWAY, S.C.– For the second straight week, Coastal Carolina volleyball has swept the Big South Player and Freshman of the Week honors. Sophomore Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) won the Choice Hotels Player of the Week for the second time this season, while freshman Alicia Meyers (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) won the New Balance Freshman of the Week for the second straight week.

Jensen, an outside hitter, moved her double-double record to 19 matches as she helped the Lady Chanticleers go 2-0 in the Big South last week. Jensen had 18 kills and 20 digs in a four-game win over the University of North Carolina at Asheville Nov. 1. She also hit .220 for the match and had a service ace and a block. Against Birmingham-Southern Nov. 2, Jensen led all players with 16 kills and 16 digs while hitting .316. She is second in the Big South with 4.08 kills per game and leads the conference with 3.98 digs per contest. Jensen also earned Big South Player of the Week on Sept. 29.

Meyers, an outside hitter, hit a torrid .390 for the week in helping Coastal move to second place in the Big South. She had a career-high 16 kills to go with 17 digs against UNCA Nov. 1. Meyers then hit .455 with 11 kills, three digs and a solo block in the win over Birmingham-Southern Nov. 2. She is averaging 2.20 kills and 2.55 digs per game. Meyers is only the second freshman to repeat as Big South Freshman of the Week, joining High Point’s Lindsay Pickens.

Coastal now begins a five-match stretch, all in the Big South, on the road to end the regular season. The Lady Chants open the swing at Radford University Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.
