Men's Soccer Has Two Win National Titles CONWAY, NC — Coastal Carolina's men's soccer program had two players lead their respective teams to national championships.
Recent alumnus Thomas Rutter helped Wilmington to the United Soccer League (USL) Pro Select League Championship with a 2-1 double overtime victory over Westchester. Wilmington entered the post-season as the fourth-seed and defeated top seed Carolina and third seed Utah en route to the title. Rutter saw action in 12 contests this year for the Hammerheads, including 56 minutes of action in the championship game.
Senior forward Joseph Ngwenya scored the first goal, which turned out to be the gamewinner, to spur the Cape Cod Crusaders to a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Fire Reserves in the USL's Premier Development League Championship. Ngwenya, who led the NCAA in goals scored last year, led the PDL in goals with 17 in just 13 matches, and finished with 36 points, good for third in the league. Ngwenya was named to the PDL's All-Eastern Conference squad for his play.
