Box Score Volleyball Falls to Clemson in Three Games CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (3-4) fell to Clemson University (4-5) in three games in the second match of the Coastal Carolina Classic Sept. 12, in Conway, S.C. The Lady Chanticleers fell to the Tigers 20-30, 27-30 and 25-30.
Clemson hit .283 in game one as the Lady Chants only had nine kills on 31 attempts. Leslie Finn had eight kills for the Tigers, while senior Sarah Bennett (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) had four kills and sophomore Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) had eight digs in the first game.
Coastal had a lead as late as 23-22 in the second game, but three straight points by Clemson to go from a 26-26 tie to a 29-26 lead gave the Tigers the win. Coastal hit .182 in the second game, compared to .263 for the Tigers. Hampton led the Lady Chants with five kills in game two.
Coastal had 17 kills in the third game as a furious rally came up late in the 30-25 loss. Clemson had match point at 29-18, but two attack errors, a ball handling error and four kills for Coastal cut the lead to four at 29-25. Clemson capatilized on a hitting error to end the match.
Bennett led the offensive charge with nine kills, while senior Carly Draudt (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita) had eight and Hampton added seven. Hampton also had 29 assists and 20 digs. Sophomore Katherine Jensen (Vancouver, B.C./Sentinel Secondary) also was in double figures in digs with 17. Ryane Beasley had 16 kills to lead Clemson.
The Coastal Carolina Classic continues Saturday, Sept. 13, as the Lady Chants face Wofford College at noon and Florida Atlantic University at 4 p.m., in Kimbel Arena.
