CONWAY , S.C.– The Coastal Carolina University women’s tennis team (12-4, 4-1 Big South) defeated Birmingham-Southern College 5-2, while the men (1-15, 0-5 Big South) fell 7-0 March 28, in Conway, S.C.

Coastal took four of the six singles matches. Senior Medina Bajrambasic won at first singles with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Charlotte Kelly. At second singles, junior Marie Matkra defeated Jennifer Williams 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Petra Jantti defeated Cammie Nix 6-3, 6-3 and freshman Nicole Lemmerer beat Stephanie Boucher 6-3, 6-2. Coastal also won two of the three doubles matches. Bajrambasic and Matrka bounced back with an 8-4 win over Nix and Kelly. Junior Virginie Dinh and Jantti defeated Laura Kirk and Daisy Humphrey 8-3 at second doubles.

On the men’s side, freshman Ryan Vrba and Andy Caress both split sets, but fell in tiebreaks. Sophomore Florentin Meynie and freshman Richard Redding won in first doubles 8-4 over David Ray and Ben Johnson.

The Coastal women head to Charleston, S.C., to face the College of Charleston Wednesday, March 31 at 3 p.m. The men are at High Point Saturday, April 3, at noon.
