Box Score Volleyball Wins In Three Games at Liberty

LYNCBURG, VA – Coastal Carolina’s volleyball team defeated the Liberty Flames in three games Saturday. Game scores were: 30-13, 30-26, and 31-29. The Lady Chants are now 13-9 overall and 8-1 in the Big South Conference. Liberty fell to 8-4 and 4-5 in league play.   In the first game, Coastal had a 9-1 lead until Liberty’s Janelle Migeot had a kill which  helped get Liberty back in the game, CCU however controlled the first game and Liberty continued to try to catch up. Leading the Flames 22-10, Katherine Jensen-Spencer (Vancouver, BC/Sentinel Secondary/Mississippi) led the Lady Chants on a four-point streak giving CCU a 16 point lead. The four-point was broken up by Liberty’s Mary Alice Pike. The Chants then went on a four-point streak after a kill from Ashley Scheible (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville High) to win the game, 30-13.   The second game, Liberty had a 9-5 lead until a double block by Jennifer Hampton (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) and Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) brought the Lady Chants back in action. Liberty kept control early in the game until a 25-25 tie. Krista Kimble (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) led CCU with a kill onto a four-point run, and on to win the second game 30-23.   The third and final game was kept close between the Flames and the Lady Chants. At a 29-29 tie Scheible had a pivotal kill that led CCU to the 31-29 win and eighth Big South Conference win during the 2005 season.   Jensen-Spencer recorded 21 kills and seven digs for the Lady Chants in the victory. Hampton added 49 assists and 12 digs for CCU. Hampton also had three aces for Coastal. Kimble contributed ten kills and two blocks. Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) tallied 11 digs in the victory.   Liberty’s Jessica Nelson recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs for the Flames. Kendall Nichols added nine kills and five digs in Liberty’s effort.   CCU out hit Liberty with an overall hitting percentage of .390 while the Flames hit at .190. The Lady Chants had seven blocks while LU had three. CCU recorded six aces in the victory, while Liberty tallied three.   Coastal will host UNC Asheville Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6
