Box Score Volleyball Falls to Xavier 3-0 More Information:
CONWAY, S.C. The Coastal Carolina Volleyball team (2-8) dropped 3-0 to Xavier in the opening day of the Microtel Inn and Suites CCU Classic Friday, 23-30, 23-30, 16-30. The East Tennessee Buccaneers won the first match over North Florida.
Leading the way for the Lady Chanticleers was freshman Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) who had 11 kills and four digs. Also having strong performances for Coastal was freshman Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) with 16 digs, senior Laura Obert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) with seven kills and senior Kristin Rinne (Fountain Hills, Ariz/Fountain Hills) who had six kills and seven digs.
"I'm happy with how we came out tonight against Xavier," Head Coach Kristen Bauer commented. "We seemed more comfortable with our lineup than we had been in the previous tournaments and worked well as a team. We need to execute better and work on our blocks, but I'm excited with the intensity and desire that the team showed tonight."
Xavier had three players have double digits in kills, Lauren Kaminsky with 10, Danielle Skrajewski with 17 and Jill Quayle with 13. As a team Xavier had 50 kills on 13 errors with a .333 hitting percentage and six team blocks. Coastal had 36 kills on 26 errors with a .084 hitting percentage and five team blocks.
The Microtel Inn and Suites CCU Classic continues tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. as Xavier takes on North Florida. The Lady Chanticleers return to the court at noon to meet the East Tennessee State Buccaneers
