Box Score Women's Soccer Falls to Elon 2-0 More Information:
ELON, N.C. – Despite outshooting Elon 17-2, the Coastal Carolina University women’s soccer team (2-2-1) fell to the Phoenix 2-0 Sept. 7 in Elon, N.C. Elon’s Molly Calpin scored in the 10th and 50th minutes for the Phoenix’s only shots of the game.
Calpin scored on an unassisted goal at 9:34. She controlled the ball at midfield and dribbled in the box, her shot beating senior Jaclyn Stoll (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield Secondary) to the left side. Coastal had shots on goal by senior Simone Borucinski (Canberra, Australia/Daramalan College), freshman Samantha Teijelo (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) and sophomore Alyssa Hunt (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) in the first half, as the Lady Chanticleers outshot Elon 9-1 in the first frame.
Calpin scored her second goal of the game at 49:46 off a pass from Alix Heincke. Junior Ashleigh Gunning (Baton Rouge, La./Magnet (LSU)) had two shots on goal in the second half for CCU.
Elon’s Lauren Wisniewski had six saves for the Phoenix in their win. Coastal had a 6-4 corner-kick advantage. Gunning led the Lady Chants with four shots, while freshman Blair Monroe (Little River, S.C./North Myrtle Beach), junior Emma Humphries (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Marsden College (Cal State Fullerton)), and sophomore Emily McColl (Wellington, New Zealand/Hutt Valley) had three shots apiece.
Coastal continues its road trip Monday, Sept. 11 at Buies Creek, N.C., as the Chants face Campbell. Game time is at 6 p.m.
