Chanticleers Take Two From Campbell

More Information:

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team picked up two wins over Campbell University on Saturday, Mar. 31. Coastal won the first in six innings 9-1 and won the second 4-3 with a game-winning homerun from Allison Cantrell in the seventh inning.   In game one, Coastal finished with 11 hits and put up nine runs to end the game in six innings. Coastal got on the board in their first at bat when Erika Trujillo (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge (Northern Colorado)) singled to left field scoring Glynn Tolleson (Tomball, Texas/Tomball (Radford)).   Two homeruns in the second inning put the Chants up 4-0. Carla Hood (Marion, S.C./Marion) put one over the fence for the seventh time this season. Tolleson then hit a double to left field and was brought home when Allison Cantrell (McDonough, Ga./Eagle’s Landing) hit her fifth homerun of the season.   Ashley Gerdts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) put one over the fence in the third to put the Chants on top 5-0.   Campbell scored in the fourth which brought the score to 5-1, but Coastal was too much to handle in the sixth.   Tolleson once again, got on with a double to left field which advanced Danyelle Gerdts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) to third who reached on an error. Cantrell then loaded the bases with a walk. Kristina Sheppard (Galveston, Texas/Ball) scored Danyelle Gerdts with a base hit up the middle. Trujillo added two more with a single to right center. Kimberly Cillis (Magnolia, Texas/Magnolia) then ended the game with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Sheppard and ended the game with a final score of 9-1.   Tolleson finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate and Trujillo went 2-for-3. Brittney Hollifield (Rockford, Tenn./Alcoa) pitched in all six innings and stuck out three batters and allowed only four hits.   The second game of the day was much closer. Trujillo was once again, consistent at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the first that sent Cantrell across home plate and put the Chants on the board first. Cillis then walked with the bases loaded and brought the score to 2-0 to end the first.   Coastal added one more in the second when Danyelle Gerdts hit a homerun over the right field fence, her first of the season.   Campbell brought the score to 3-1 in the third when Amanda Littlejohn hit an RBI single down the right line. The Camels then evened the score in the sixth with four hits and two runs, making in 3-3 heading into the seventh.   Coastal’s defense held strong in the top of the inning. Cantrell led off for CCU and put the fifth pitch over the center field fence for the walk-off homerun.   With the win, Coastal improves to 13-22 on the season while Campbell fell to 20-26-1.
