CONWAY, S.C. — The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped both games in its doubleheader against the Georgia Southern Eagles at St. John Stadium on Friday. The Chants suffered a 7-4 loss in game one before falling 9-4 in game two.
Game One: Coastal 4, Georgia Southern 7
Georgia Southern struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring on an RBI single by Emma Davis to take a 1-0 lead.
Coastal responded in the bottom of the inning when
McKennah Metzger lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing
Libby Pippin to score from third and tie the game at 1-1.
The Eagles regained the lead in the top of the second inning when Kennedy Shea crossed home plate on a passed ball to make it 2-1.
In the top of the third, Georgia Southern added another run on an RBI single by Valarie Combs to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Chants cut the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning when Metzger blooped a single into left field to score

Georgia Southern continued to build its lead in the top of the fourth inning, tacking on a run with a sacrifice fly by Delanie Thames to make it 4-2.
The Eagles extended their advantage in the top of the sixth inning, scoring on an error and a two-run single to push the score to 7-2.
CCU answered in the bottom of the sixth when
Hannah Bendle laced a two-run double to left-center field to cut the deficit to 7-4.
Georgia Southern's Bailey Holland recorded at 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to secure the win.
Game Two: Coastal 4, Georgia Southern 9
Georgia Southern carried its momentum into game two, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning courtesy of back-to-back RBI singles from Davis and Combs.
The Eagles extended their lead to 5-0 in the top of the second inning when Thames cracked a three-run home run over the center-field wall.
Coastal got a run back in the bottom of the second when
Clara Hudgens hit an RBI single over the third baseman's head to make it 5-1.
The Chants rallied in the bottom of the third inning as
Brie Normandin laced a three-run triple down the right-field line to cut the deficit to 5-4.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles added three more runs on a two-run single from Davis and a sacrifice fly from Combs to extend their advantage to 8-4.
Georgia Southern continued to apply pressure in the top of the fifth inning, scoring on an RBI single by Kayla Christensen to secure the 9-4 victory.
Metzger fell to 2-1 in the circle, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 3.1 innings of work.
