CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team took the bite out of the UNC Asheville Bulldogs after an intense afternoon on Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Chanticleers got their 10th win on the season, 6-1.
Senior Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) picked up his tenth win of the season at the number five singles position.
The Chanticleers won the doubles point in a tiebreaker match at the number three position.
UNC Asheville's number one doubles team of Mauricio Correa and Rob Nunnery defeated Coastal's Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen Mary's College) and Caress , 8-5 but the Chanticleer team of David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) and Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) defeated Damien Snare and Nicholas Thuell 8-2.
The pressure landed of the team of freshman Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and senior Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) and UNC Asheville's Loic Hereson and Joseph May. The two teams battled in what became a heated tie-breaking match with the Chanticleers gaining the victory 9-8 (4) to pick up the duos 10th win on the season.
Coastal won five out of the six singles matches with the loss coming at the number one spot when Taylor fell to Nunnery 6-3, 6-2.
Mellis picked up a victory against Correa 6-4, 6-3 while Tzvetkov landed his ninth win against Hereson 6-3, 6-4.
Redding also got his ninth win in the number four singles position after taking down Thuell 6-3, 6-1 while Caress got his tenth victory in a three-set thriller against May 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.
Withers also picked up his ninth win after taking down Snare 7-6, 6-2.
The Chanticleers return to action on Sunday when they take advantage of their spring break to play some quality tennis in Hilton Head, S.C. against Colgate at 4 p.m. ET
