Men's Tennis Sweeps Queens, 7-0 More Information:
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's tennis team defeated Queens University of Charlotte 7-0 Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 5) at Prestwick Country Club.
The Chanticleers (3-0) won all three doubles matches. Sophomores Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) and Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) scored an 8-4 win over Vivek Yadav and Ankit Mody at No. 1 doubles. Junior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty) and freshman John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) improved to 3-0 in doubles play with a 9-7 victory over Jonathan O'Rourke and Edwin Ramierz at No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, sophomore Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201 (Arkansas)) and junior Christopher Ross-da Silva (Estoril, Portugal/ADLC Online) defeated Matthew Abramowitz and Ryan Wall 8-2 in the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, Ramos and Vlaskin won No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, in three sets. Ramos beat Yadav 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 and Vlaskin won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 over Mody. Tzvetkov defeated O'Rourke 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot, while Withers beat Ramierz 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. Hairston posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Abramowitz at No. 5 singles. Meanwhile, freshman Omar El Bouskouri (Meznes, Morocco/Schiller) scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Wall at the No. 6 slot.
Coastal Carolina returns to action Saturday, Feb. 9 with a pair of matches at the City of Myrtle Beach Tennis Center. The Chants face Winston-Salem State at 9 a.m. and then Campbell at 2:30 p.m.
