ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University volleyball team (10-5) charged through its competition at the South Carolina State Invitational Sept. 20 in Orangeburg, S.C. On day two, the Chanticleers dismissed Wofford (15-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-22) in the first match, before powering through Hampton 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-17).   The Chanticleers have now won five consecutive matches to record their longest winning streak of the season.   Junior Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) was selected to the All-Tournament team.   Coastal Carolina went down 19-10 in the first set against Wofford, struggling through a series of attacking errors. The Terriers capitalized on Coastal Carolina's slow start, out-hitting the Chanticleers .500 to .083 in taking the first set 25-15.   The Chants recovered quickly in the second set, taking a 12-3 lead from two service aces from sophomore Chelsy Kimes (Munster, Ind./Munster). A service error from the Terriers handed the Chanticleers the set 25-14.   The two squads started the third set by trading points until Wofford rallied to a 15-10 advantage. The Chanticleers countered with an eight-point run to go up 18-15. Nyhof nabbed the set for Coastal Carolina with a kill, as the Chanticleers edged the Terriers 25-20.   At the start of the fourth frame, the teams swapped six-point runs playing to an 8-8 tie. Coastal Carolina had surrendered two match points before Nyhof earned the Chanticleers a 25-22 victory.   Freshman Erika Lightsey (Monument, Colo./Air Academy) led the attack for Coastal Carolina against Hampton, recording a career-high 10 kills. Redshirt sophomore Rachel Bonertz (Spokane Valley, Wash./East Valley) made her season debut, tallying three kills and six digs.   The Chanticleers went up 16-9 and never looked back as they recorded the next nine points taking the first set 25-9. Four service aces by senior Kristin Wolf (Andover, Kan./Central) and a kill by junior Meagan Tracey (Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon) gave the Chanticleers a 25-13 win in the second frame.   The Lady Pirates kept pace with the Chanticleers in the third set and went up 10-8, but Lightsey and Bonertz tallied a kill apiece to even the score at 10-10. Coastal Carolina finished strong with kill by Lightsey to end the match 25-17.   The Chants begin their quest for a Big South Championship Fri., Sept. 26 when they host Radford at 7 p.m. and Liberty Sat., Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.
