Box Score Volleyball Swept by Ohio State, 3-0

WICHITA, KAN - The Coastal Carolina University Volleyball team fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) in the opening match of the Wichita State Best Western Shocker Classic Thursday, Sept. 4 at Charles Koch Arena.
The Buckeyes owned the advantage from the outset, going ahead 8-0, before sophomore Chelsy Kimes' (Munster, Ind./Munster ) kill earned the Chanticleers first point of the set. A service error by junior Megan Pollard (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) gave the Buckeyes a 16-8 lead. The Chants hit .030 against a steady Buckeye offense that finished the set with a .265 hitting percentage and a 25-16 victory.
Coastal Carolina could not solve the Ohio State offense in the second set, as the Buckeyes charged to a 5-0 lead. The Buckeyes knocked down 14 kills and held the Chanticleers to their lowest hitting percentage of the season at -.059, to take the second set 25-13.
The Chanticleers kept play tight in the third set as two kills from Kimes and one from sophomore Megan Bickford (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) helped Coastal Carolina to a 6-6 start. A block by junior Jill Nyhof (Alpharetta, Ga./Northview) and senior Kristin Wolf (Andover, Kan./Andover Central) leveled the score at 8-8, before Ohio State earned the next four points to pull away 12-8. A kill by Kimes brought the Chanticleers to a one-point deficit at 13-12, but a relentless attack by the Buckeyes posted 16 kills in the final set for a 25-19 win.
Kimes led
the Chants with eight kills and Nyhof earned four blocks against the Buckeyes.
The Chanticleers continue play Friday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. against Lamar, before returning to the court for a night match against #22 Wichita State. First serve for the nightcap is set for 9 p.m.
