CLINTON, S.C.-The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team tied Presbyterian 1-1, Oct. 21, at Clinton, S.C.
The Chanticleers improve their unbeaten streak to eight and are now 1-0-3 in the conference and 4-2-6. Presbyterian is now 2-9-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the Big South.
Matt Schroeder opened scoring 15 minutes into the game when his shot was deflected off of a Presbyterian defender and past goalkeeper James Neal. The goal was Schroeder's first of the season and the second of his career.
The Blue Hose responded as Paul Jackson received a cross from Paul Gunning and shot the ball into the net six yards out. The Chanticleers finished the first half with more shots 5-4, but the Blue Hose tallied more on goal, 3-2.
Presbyterian put pressure on redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Scott Angevine forcing him to make six saves in the second half. The second half score remained even at one although Presbyterian outshot the Chanticleers 9-2, while new Presbyterian goalkeeper Andrew Wallingford was left to only make one save.
The Chanticleers opened the first overtime attacking on offense with two shots on goal from James Stapleton and Riley Phelps. Phelps would add another shot on goal making the Chanticleer shots on goal total at three. In the second overtime, both teams tallied two shots and none on goal.
Goalkeeper Angevine made eight saves on the day while Presbyterian netminders Neal made one and Wallingford put aside four. Angevine remains unbeaten with a 2-0-5 record.
The Chanticleers return home to Conway, S.C. to take on VMI Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
