ASHEVILLE, N.C.-The Coastal Carolina University men's soccer team defeated the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 2-1 Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31 at Asheville, N.C.
The Chanticleers improve their win streak to two and unbeaten streak to 10 are now at the 6-2-6 mark overall and 3-0-3 in the Big South. The Bulldogs now fall to 6-9-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the conference.
Matt Schroeder opened they scoring for the Chanticleers at 14:10 into the game when he tapped a free kick from senior Djamel Bekka. Ross Kelly added another 22 minutes later off of a rebound from Schroeder and Bekka to score his second goal of the season.
The Chanticleers forced Asheville goalkeeper Lass Hurskainen to make two more saves to end the half up two goals. The Chants outshot the Bulldogs 6-2.
In the second half, the Bulldogs cut the Chanticleer lead to one as Scott Himelein scored his second goal of the season by picking up a lose ball from Jake Sides and Connor Holzinger in the 53rd minute of the game. The Chanticleers defense held off the Bulldogs as Asheville outshot the Chants 3-2.
Kelly had the game-high two shots of the Chanticleers' eight. The Chants tallied more corner kicks in the game with three to the Bulldogs one.
The Chanticleers travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on conference rival Winthrop on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. They then return home for Senior Night against Radford on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
